The Shaw Conference Centre, which is owned by the City of Edmonton and managed by Edmonton Economic Development, is a top contributor to the meetings, conventions and special event business in Greater Edmonton, hosting more than 650 events and half million guests each year, who in turn generate $45 million in spending across the province annually.
We are looking for an eager and enthusiastic professional to join our Security team as an Event Security Agent. Event Security Agents are responsible for patrolling and monitoring events at the Shaw Conference Centre, ensuring the safety and security off staff members, clients, contractors, and members of the public.
The Event Security Agents must have a current individual security license as required by the Security Services and Investigators Act legislations (SSIA License) along with a minimum of 6 months of security industry experience (preferred). The ideal candidate must obtain ProServe and ProTect certification within one month of employment and be in possession of current certification in standard first aid or equivalent (St. John’s, Red Cross, Emergency Medical Planning Canada – GMCC).
The successful candidate will have the ability to address individuals in a service-oriented manner and to perform their duties calmly under stressful circumstances. They will have good written and verbal communication skills (English) and possess the ability to sand, walk and sit for significant periods of time. Physical ability will be important to this position as security guards often have to handle and transport materials that are over 25lbs. Additionally, use-of-force and verbal de-escalation training would be an asset.
